I want the ground open up and take me back home there's nothing you can do or say that'll stop me from going I'm like the wind in my own way and it don't stop blowing just moves on to another place and just keeps on going My soul is just an entity that hides in the night And God is but a deity who's love's based on fright There's men who try to preach to you the politics of life well that's their insecurity unsure of their plight I want to just look around and see the world through my own eyes not the lies of some clown There's nothing that can stop me walking out that door Everybody's saying no and i can't take it anymore I want to be free

Cryptic Song 04:17

about

The very first of three 4-track cassette demo tapes from the 3-piece indie band (not to be confused with the later punk outfit of the same name).

With the songwriter only 18 at the time, the tunes have a certain naive charm.

Review by Stuart Coupe, "On the Street" 26th February 1992:

"...God Nose have really got something going for them ... the quality of the performances and songs ... convince me that given a decent budget these guys could craft something pretty superb.

The opener, Sweet Sour Wine, is a killer song, laden with hooks, excellent melodies and real energy. It's pop but it's not twee ... Following comes Cryptic Song which is subdued, powerful and shows that besides being an excellent songwriter, [the singer] is a fine vocalist. The remainder of the tape is equally exciting and invigorating. Can't Take It is great, and ... there's nothing here that's less than interesting - and it's frequently more than that. After a half dozen spins I'm convinced that I'm on the same wavelength ... An impressive debut from a band who've got more than God on their side."
